There are many reasons why we need to perform the hand flash on our Android phone
Reasons which may include lagging, slow booting, some even try to unroot their device through factory reset
Abnormal operation, and most cases virus infection, malware etc. Also you might forget your phone password and the only way to get access back to the phone is by resetting it,you  might be making a mistake as you can unlock your phone without resetting it, so that should not be a reason why you need to reset your phone

You can decide to go to a Phone clinic to get it resetted through softwares using a computer system
Or you want a quick flash at home or there are no good phone clinic close to you
If you have important data/files you don't want to lose I will suggest you backup your files to Google
You can also reset your phone through your phone settings

So let's get started

When the device is powered off press the power button and the volume down button simultaneously 40 seconds until the phone powers on,if you did it correctly you will access a recovery menu with options
 Note : You can't Navigate with your screen at this point in time so you navigate with your volume up and down button until you get to erase data or factory reset you can tap on it with your power button if any prompt arrives click yes then it begins follow the remaining resources then your phone has just been resetted
But bear it in mind that there might be 
If this method does not work you should try the volume down up button and the home button and if it still doesn't work try the volume up and power button
Because there are various manufacturers so ways to assess dear recovery menu are unique
